Virginia’s Apology for Slavery

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

You can read the full text of the bill, and get a summary of the progress of the bill, through the Virginia General Assembly Legislative Information System. A few interesting newspaper articles and editorials about the bill include Fury Over Delagate’s Remarks on Slavery” (Washington Post), “Wording of Resolution Changed on Va’s Slavery Role” (Virginian-Pilot), a Monday, Jan. 29 webcast by the Richmond Times-Dispatch highlighting the state Senate’s debate over language, “Pain and Apology” and All Due Apologies” (editorials in the Roanoke Times). I haven’t been able to find editorials in newspapers criticizing the apology, so if you find some please post links to them in the comments.
